At Home Ayurvedic Beauty Techniques

31 May 2010 | by Courtney

With the amount of artificial beauty that there is in the world today, people are becoming increasingly aware just how important it is to always look their best – naturally! Though these companies who provide these artificial products may make you think that attaining that natural beauty is downright impossible, Ayurvedic beauty has proven them wrong time and time again.

What is Ayurvedic Beauty?

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian science of both life and holistic treatments. It involves not only being beautiful on the outside, but also from within. For centuries these natural beauty techniques have been performed in their culture, however Western Countries are only just starting to become aware of this effective sort of treatment. You can now visit several different spas and find a number of different Ayurvedic beauty treatments available.

What are some Ayurvedic Beauty Techniques I can Practice at Home?

To work on your beauty from within, it is important to maintain a healthy and balanced diet. Dark, leafy greens, fresh fruits and lots of water are mainly what are encouraged, as is the consumption of several different spices (such as garlic and turmeric).

Here are some topical skin applications that you can use from your very home to attain that youthful glow:

To Cleanse your Skin:

Take a piece of cotton wool or a cotton pad and dip it in milk. Wipe your entire face with it to remove unseen dirt and to unclog your pores

TIP: A great follow up treatment to this cleanser is to apply coconut milk over your lips and face. This will add that nourishing “glow” to your skin.

To Moisturize your Skin:

Take 1 tablespoon of orange juice, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and then mix it into a cup of yogurt. This should form a paste. Apply it to your face as you would apply any facial mask, and leave it for 15 minutes. After that, simply remove it with a wetted tissue. This moisturizer will enhance your complexion and make it appear radiant.

If you have more sensitive or dry skin, try making a special “protein mask” from one teaspoon of urad dal and 6 almonds. Soak the two overnight, and then grind it into a paste the next day. Apply it to your face and wash it off after 30 minutes.

A quick mask that works wonderfully is mixing one tablespoon of pure honey with 2 tablespoons of cream and then applying it to your face. After a few minutes, rinse it off and you’re good to go.

To Prevent Wrinkles

If you have any pure castor oil, break it out and apply it to your skin, especially on any wrinkles. Take care to keep it out of your eyes.

To Remove Blemishes and Scars

For centuries the Indian culture has successfully rubbed raw potato over their blemishes to reduce and ultimately eliminate their appearance.

To Prevent UV Rays

Yes, you can make your very own sunscreen at home! Combine fresh cucumber juice, rose water, and glycerin. Apply it to your face (or any skin that is going to be exposed to the sun) and refrigerate any left over mixture until you need to use it again.
