Holiday Makeup Tips

04 August 2010 | by Courtney

Along with the holidays come the family reunions, the office parties, and a variety of other events that demand that you look your very best. Holiday makeup doesn’t have to be a laborious chore. Here are some of the best holiday makeup tips to have you looking your best during the season.

What is one of the trendiest holiday makeup tricks I can use during the Christmas season?

Regardless of what your eye makeup may be, what your lipstick shade is, or how you have done your hair, adding some shimmer to your face is IN during this holiday season. Using a shimmer powder will lighten your whole look and will give you that perfect “glow”.

To use shimmer powder, take a large blush brush and then sweep a light amount of the powder over your cheek bones, your temples, your forehead, your nose, and chin.

TIP: Shimmer powder is not just for your face! Some women like to add a light dusting of shimmer powder to the front of their shins or between their cleavage.

My office party is right after work. Do I have to redo my entire makeup?

NO! If you know that you have an event later on in the evening after work and will not have time to redo your whole look, go to work wearing only your foundation (or a tinted moisturizer), mascara, and lip gloss or lip stick.

Once you’re about to head out to the party, you can then quickly fix up any blemishes by patting concealer overtop and apply your eye makeup or your lipstick of choice.

TIP: To have your daytime makeup last throughout the entire day, a good idea is to use a primer before you apply foundation to your face. The primer will help bind all of your makeup to your face so that it will be long lasting.

Use oil blotting papers or apply a light dusting of translucent powder your face regularly throughout the day to help reduce oily skin or runny facial makeup. Alternatively, use makeup products that are labeled as long-lasting.

What’s a good “look” for a holiday office party?

Deep red lipstick or a smoky eye are two wonderful, classic holiday makeup looks that every woman can look good with (yes, every woman can pull off red lipstick!).

The key here is to not play up both your eyes and your lips, a classic mistake that several women still make. Doing so may make you appear “overdone” or even clownish, something that you certainly don’t want your co-workers to be gossiping about at the water cooler on Monday morning.

There’s always a lot of eating at these holiday parties. How can I get my lipstick to stay put?

Nothing is worse than having lipstick that is continuously rubbing off! To make any lipstick stay – regardless as to whether or not it is labeled as “long lasting” – begin by applying foundation to your lips. Allow the foundation to dry, and then line your lips with lip liner. Fill your lips in with the lipstick, and top it off with a special lipstick sealant.
