Having a beauty workshop can be a great idea for a get-together with the girls (or any men who may be interested), or it can also be a wonderful promotional strategy for your salon or spa. Hosting a beauty workshop is always appreciated by your friends or (potential) customers, and it’s a great way to also show off your knowledge and your skills.
But if you have never thrown a beauty workshop before, it can be rather hard to decide where to start.
PLANNING
If you have sent an invitation out to your girlfriends, then it’s easy to guess how many will be coming, who is bringing what snacks or refreshments, and you won’t have to arrange for extra seating.
If you are a salon, no matter how you advertize (online, in the newspaper, fliers) the amount of people who show up can be a hard to pin down. As a general rule, plan for twice the amount of your current customer base and arrange for food and chairs from there. Having the beauty workshop in your salon is best as people will then know where you are located, though you can also rent out a hall fairly cheaply too.
WHAT TO TEACH IN THE WORKSHOP
If you are a salon, undoubtedly you will want to teach things that also go hand in hand with certain products that you are selling and promoting. Determine what customers in your spa usually complain about (i.e. their blond dye jobs becoming brassy over time, their nails break and chip easily, wrinkles) and offer solutions.
Whether you are a salon or throwing a beauty workshop at home with the girls, it’s also a good idea to include some “do it yourself” treatments or at-home follow up treatments. As a business owner, this helps build trust with your customer base as they will now know that you truly are interested in them retaining their beauty and aren’t just looking for their money.
TIP: When offering home care options, try to use “do it yourself” natural methods of beauty, such as some of the methods mentioned below.
Refreshing Foot Soak
½ Cup of Epsom salts
1 TBSP of Borax
1 TBSP of Baking Soda
1 TBSP of lemon juice
¼ oz. of Turkey Red oil
10 drops of Tea Tree Essential oil
10 drops of Peppermint Essential oil
In a small bowl or cup, mix both the Turkey Red oil and the Essential oils with one another. Warm up ½ gallon of water so it is of bath-temperature and pour it into a foot or foot massage tub. Add in the lemon juice, the Epsom salts, and the powders to the water and then stir. Add in essential oils and enjoy!
Oatmeal-Avocado Facial Mask
1 half of a very ripe avocado
1 TBSP of Colloidal Oatmeal (coarse)
2 TBSP of Oat Straw Powder
2 drops of Chamomile Essential oil
2 drop of Rosehip oil
Mash the avocado until it is smooth and add in both the Colloidal Oatmeal and Oat Straw Powder. Once evenly mixed, stir in the Chamomile and Rosehip oil. After washing your face, apply this mask mixture to your face and leave it for up to ten minutes.
TIP: Right before you rinse it off, massage it in a circular motion into your skin to exfoliate your skin.
