How to Maintain Teen Beauty

Written by Courtney L. | 24 July 2010

As we age, many of us tend to lament about how our skin is beginning to droop and sag and dream of the days that we were once teenagers. Teenagers tend to exude natural beauty. Because of that, it is important that teenagers also take advantage of their naturally wonderful, glowing skin and color and not drown it out under piles and piles of make up.

The key to teen beauty is to be subtle and to only highlight the very best features that you have. Here are some great tips for teens to still use make up, but in such a way that they still look young, vibrant, and most importantly, look their age:

Do you REALLY need foundation?

Sure, foundations can give you that flawless complexion, but fact of the matter is that most teens already do have glowing and wonderful skin! If you are concerned about a blemish or two, grab the concealer and blot it out that way – don’t waste your time and money on an expensive foundation that will cover up your natural blush and skin tone.

How to Properly Apply Concealer

Women, both young and old, make the mistake of “rubbing” the concealer into their skin rather than dabbing and patting it on. When you rub a concealer in, you are really just wiping off at least half of what you have applied. By patting it on, you are receiving maximum coverage and won’t find yourself needing to put more concealer on until much later in the day. Once you apply the concealer, pat a light dusting of powder over top to help it set and stay all day.

NOTE: If you do suffer from acne and are tired of trying different make up strategies to cover them up, ask your parents or save up your money to visit a dermatologist. A dermatologist will be able to nip the problem in the bud and you will have a smooth complexion within weeks.

Always Use Sunscreen. ALWAYS.

You’ll certainly be glad you put on that SPF30 each and every morning as a teen in your later years of life. Even on the cloudiest and darkest of days, UV rays are penetrating through the clouds and doing damage to your face. An SPF of 15 or higher, no matter what your skin color, will go a long way in preventing wrinkles and unsightly sunspots later on.

What’s so Bad about your Natural Hair Color?

Sure, trying a new hair color is fun, but it can also be downright drastic. If you are just starting to dye your hair, you can try to add a hair lightening product, or lemon juice, to your hair if you are out in the sun or blow drying your hair. This will add natural blond highlights.

If you are thinking about coloring your entire head, only dye your hair a shade or two lighter or darker than your natural hair color. This way you will look exceptionally glamorous and trendy rather than just plain tacky.

Take your Pick: Lips or Eyes

When you are doing your make up in the morning, decide what feature you are going to play up – is it going to be your lips? Or your eyes? Never do both. Wearing a dark shade of lipstick along with dark eye shadow will only age you and make you lose your youthful, fresh look.
