How To Put a Stop To Frizzy Hair

Posted by Courtney

Unless you have naturally straight hair, chances are that you have combated the frizzies at least a few times in your life. Hair becomes frizzy for a number of reasons, though it is usually the weather or outdoor conditions that can cause our hair to go from fabulous to fuzzy in seconds.

We can’t get rid of humidity, but we can learn how to control our hair so that frizzing won’t occur. The first and best way to prevent frizzing is:

How Often are you Washing your Hair?

If you seem to always have frizzy hair, then you may want to take a good hard look at how often you are washing it. The longer you allow your hair to go unwashed, the more natural oils there are that build up on the hair and both condition the hair and keep it frizz free. The natural oils in our hair also help condition our hair. Though you do definitely need to wash your hair from time to time, rather than wash it everyday or every other day, wash your hair every 2 to 3 days.

TIP: If your hair is quite oily, you can always use some dry shampoo or even corn starch to get rid of some of the excess oil.

It’s also important to use the right kind of shampoo. If your hair is frizzy, that means that it is dry, so it is important that you use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Leave the conditioner in your hair for at least 2 minutes so that it is able to fully penetrate the shaft of your hair.

Stop Styling your Hair

Okay, so maybe this isn’t always possible, but on those down days when you know you will only be hanging out around the house, let your hair air dry! This will also remind you of just how great your hair is naturally. You can also allow your hair to air dry on days you must go to work. Try out some different styles and ways you can wear your hair without having to bust out the blow dryer, the hair curler or the hair straightener.

Use the Right Products

If you know that your hair is going to get frizzy, then you should apply an anti-frizz serum to your hair before it fully dries. Comb the serum through your hair so that it is distributed evenly.

If you happen to have wavy or curly hair, then it is a good idea to take a spray that will help boost our natural curls and spray it over you whole head. Use your fingertips to help smooth down the hair. If your hair does begin to frizz a bit after that, you can spray on a light coating of hair spray to help keep it under control.

TIP: If you have any type of hair milk or hair oil products at home, these are a great way to also tame the frizz without using numerous hair care products.
