Long Lasting Makeup That You Should Be Using

18 February 2012 | by Courtney

We know that makeup isn’t made to last, but it should at least last us until the very end of the day when we wash it off if our face. Unfortunately, more often than not the makeup products that we choose decide to flake off, rub off or just mysterious come off during the course of the day, which forces us to re-apply, re-apply, and then re-apply some more!

The question is, why are we doing this when there is long lasting makeup available to us? Why aren’t more of us using waterproof makeup products that promise to stay on our face all day?

There are a lot of misconceptions about waterproof makeup. The first misconception is that it won’t come off. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Waterproof makeup is going to stay on better than the other standard makeup products, yes. However, with an appropriate facial cleanser, that waterproof makeup will come off just as easily as your more conventional type of makeup.

The next misconception is that it clogs pores. Though this may have been true in the past, we are now well into the 21st century and waterproof makeup has changed a lot throughout the years. Don’t think that wearing waterproof means that you will break out into zits the next day; waterproof makeup can now be applied flawlessly and come off just the same as the old makeup that you’re used to.

Waterproof makeup has also gone so far as to also include SPF in their products, just as with many of the other conventional makeup products (you always want to choose makeup that has sunscreen so that your skin is protected and stays a long in appearance as possible!).

What about Smudge-Proof Lip Products?

Why do we settle for lipstick that we know will come off on our coffee mugs and wine glasses, that we know will rub off on our loved ones when we give them a kiss, that we know will come off on our white blouse accidentally one of these days? There are smudge-proof lip products, such as lipsticks and lip liners, which are guaranteed to last you throughout the entire day.

The best way to get any lipstick to stay on your lips is to first cover your lips with your foundation and then apply a primer. But if you also add a smudge-proof lipstick on top of that, then your lipstick is bound to last you a minimum of 8 hours. Surely you could not say the same for your more conventional lipstick products!

Will Waterproof Mascara Ever come Off?

There is an old myth that waterproof mascara, given that it is waterproof, will never come off your of your eyelashes. This is just silly. If you use a proper cleanser, or an eye makeup remover, then your waterproof mascara will come off just as easily as the more standard type of mascara you’re used to wearing. The only difference is that waterproof mascara won’t flake off, come off in humidity, and it won’t run if you cry.

I would recommend Benefit’s Oxygen Wow foundation for longer lasting wear, which only looks more natural throughout the day. I love it, because it covers up blemishes with a medium to heavy coverage without the mask-feeling on my face.
