Teeth Whitening Dangers

Though bleaching ones teeth at home has become more commonplace, there are potential teeth whitening dangers that exists. Individuals must consider each of these before actually going through with either professional or at-home bleaching.

Some of the most common ones include tooth sensitivity, irritation of the gums, uneven bleaching and actual damage to the tooth. We will discuss each of these in more-depth below.

a. Tooth sensitivity: This is one of the most common side effects or “dangers” of teeth whitening. Though this can be quite painful at times, it doesn’t typically pose any long term threat. These pains can come all at once and often times is worst when a person eats or drinks something very hot or cold. Dentists refer to these as ‘zingers.’ If a person finds that these are zingers are particularly painful, then they may want to stop using a particular product all-together.

b. Irritation of the gums: Another possible teeth whitening danger is gum irritation. This doesn’t generally last for more then a few weeks and should subside pretty quickly once a person stops using the product in question.

c. Uneven bleaching: Because individuals are usually not experts when it comes to teeth bleaching, it is possible to not apply it uniformly. This can result in bleaching that is not even. If ones teeth are especially dark, this can be quite noticeable and unattractive. To avoid this as much as possible, individuals need to make sure that they follow the kit’s instruction to the letter. This will decrease the likelihood that something goes wrong.

d. Damage to the teeth: This rarely happens but the potential for it exists. If a person has cracked teeth or cavities, bleaching can cause damage to the tooth which can affect even the root canal. This can be quite painful and cause a lot of discomfort.

Teeth whitening has become more and more popular. As more people realize that it is possible to get a superstar smile from the comfort of their own home pretty inexpensively, an increasing number of people are opting for it. Depending on the system, individuals can spend as little as $40 to $50 and take 10 years off of their looks simply by having a brighter, lighter smile. Discoloration can add years to ones looks.

As people get older, their teeth naturally get duller and stains appear, causing individuals to age, sometimes seeming older then they really are. By bleaching these stains and lessening the discoloration, persons can easily knock off 5 to 10 years. It is important to however, understand the potential dangers that exists so they know what they are getting themselves into. Teeth sensitivity, uneven results, irritation of the gums and actual damage to the teeth are all potential dangers.
