Cover up. Eye shadow. Eye liner. Mascara. For such a small area on one’s body, there most certainly are a lot of eye make up products available to try and enhance the beauty of our eyes! Sure, there are a lot of products out there, but unless you know how to use them correctly you may just end up making your eyes look worse than they are naturally!
What is Eye Shadow?
Eye shadows can be found in powder form, cream form, stick form, or even as a paint tube that go on as a creamy texture but dry out to a powder. Eye shadows cover your lids and often different eye shadow colors are used in conjunction with other eye shadows to create depth and dramatic effects.
What is Eye Liner?
Eye liner is quite self explanatory. Eye liner is used to draw a line just on the outside of your lashes to help create depth and increase the appearance of the length of your lashes. You can find eye liners to two forms:
- Pencils (these are better for beginners as you do not have to be 100% accurate upon application)
- Liquid liner (this is applied with a thin brush and leaves no room for error)
What is Mascara?
Mascara is definitely one of the most treasured pieces of make up. Mascara comes in a tube with a wand that has a brush at the tip. The brush is used to apply a coat or two of “mascara” to your eye lashes. You will most likely only be able to find mascara in a liquid form, though a ‘powder cake’ mascara form may still be sold in some stores. Go for the liquid form if you can.
What is Concealer?
Concealer is a very important part of the make up regime! Concealer will lighten up those dark under eye circles that can leave you looking sickly and pale. Concealer usually comes in a tube shape of either white or skin-toned “lip stick” or liquid that is patted gently onto areas that require coverage.
So How do I Apply Eye Make Up?
Start with your handy concealer. Cover up any dark circles and gently pat the concealer into place. You may want to follow up with a light dusting of powder.
Next, it’s time to move on to the eye shadows. Choose three of your favorite colors that you think will work well together, or buy a compact that includes complimentary colors all together. Start by applying the lightest shade of eye shadow along your brow bone. Then apply the medium shade to your lid, taking care to lighten blend the medium and light shades together near the crease of your eyes.
Now it’s time for the darker shade to be applied so that your eyes are given some shape and some depth. Apply the darker shade in the crease of your eyes, right from the inner corner to the outer edge of your eye.
After the eye shadow comes the eye liner. Grab your liner and apply a thin line to both the top and bottom of your eye lashes.
After that, nab your mascara and add a coat or two! Allow each coat to fully dry before applying the next, and be sure to remove any clumps that may develop.
