The Best Make Up for Blue Eyes

29 July 2010 | by Courtney

No matter what your eye color is, choosing eye shadow shades that will have you looking your best can be a stressful and terribly difficult task. Will greens have your baby blues glowing? Or should you go for natural browns and grays? Is it really true that blue eyes cannot wear blue eye shadows and blue eye liners?

You can now lay your worries to rest as we will cover just what works, what doesn’t, and what might work in these next few minutes.

What Works

Women all over the world made a mad dash for fake blue contacts when they were first for sale, and for good reason. Blue eyes seem to be the most coveted amongst the eye colors, and they are also the one of the rarest amongst the eye colors. There are many eye shadows out there that will certainly have your blue eyes “popping” and looking more gorgeous than if you were to apply any other shade.

Lavenders, pale purples and pale pinks will certainly make your blue eyes “pop” more than any other color. These shades tend to pick up on the lighter tones in your eyes and make them seem both bluer and more stark than other colors.

Natural shades, like browns and taupes also will allow your blue eyes to stand out and appear bluer.

Silvers and golds also really allow blue eyes to shine. Smokey make up shades like dark greys and even blacks look great on any eye color, and blue eyes are no exception.

What May Work

Forget that myth about not wearing an eye shadow that is the same color as your eyes. You can definitely wear anything from dark navy blues in the crease to bright blue on your lids if you have blue eyes. It is all about application when it comes to blue eye shadow, and to not go too overboard with it.

You can also try brighter pinks and green shades as well to compliment your eye color. These will work especially if you are matching it to clothing or to an accessory you are wearing.

What Won’t Work

Generally any red or orange shades of eye shadow will not be suitable with your blue eye color. These colors will just overwhelm your eye color and wash your blue eyes out completely.

If you are considering adding some shimmer to your eyes, go for it! You can either buy eye shadows that come with shimmer, or you can add some body glimmer or body shimmer to your eye lids yourself.

Also, after any application of eye shadow, it’s always important to follow up with a coat or two of mascara. Blue eyes are stunning no matter what, so it is not necessary to buy the blackest of black mascaras to make your eye color pop. If you are blond and have a cooler complexion you will be able to pull off the dark black mascara. If you are a brunette then you can stick with a more natural dark brown mascara shade.
