Things You Need to Know About Semi Permanent Makeup

04 August 2010 | by Courtney

Those who choose to have semi permanent makeup applied to their face may choose to do so for many reasons. Some women like to look beautiful 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Others may have lost the ability to effectively apply make up on a daily basis, and so semi permanent makeup allows them to have their makeup already applied for them. Others use it to replicate body parts, such as birth marks or even nipples on women who have suffered from breast cancer and have had part of their breast removed.

As you can see, semi permanent makeup has diverse purposes and is used by women for a number of different reasons. Before you do receive semi permanent makeup, it is first important to understand just what it is.

So what is Semi Permanent Makeup?

Semi Permanent makeup is very similar to tattooing. It is using a needle to place pigmentation under the skin in desired areas to create a chosen effect.

Permanent and semi permanent makeup exists. The difference is that semi permanent makeup is actually “micro pigmentation”. What this means is that the tattooing is placed higher up in the skin, and that the pigmentation or dyes used are also different than those that are used for permanent makeup.

Semi permanent makeup lasts any where from 2-7 years, depending on how one has treated their skin, sun exposure, how quickly the dead skin cells are removed from the skin, and many other factors.

What are some of the most popular Semi Permanent Makeup Procedures?

As with permanent makeup, the type of semi permanent makeup that is in most demand is eye liner. Any woman who wakes up with eye liner already on her face looks as if she has spent some amount of time preparing herself in the morning. You can choose from any color you want, from black to grey to brown to even more exotic shades like lime green and sky blue!

Many women also opt to have semi permanent lip liner done. This helps give the lips some added definition without you needing to add lip liner or even lipstick to your lips every single day.

Eye brows are another popular choice. For any woman who has sparse eye brows, a little bit of semi permanent makeup will help fill in your eye brows and will define their shape for years.

Before you do choose to go through with a semi permanent makeup procedure, make sure that the person you are choosing to perform the tattooing is well qualified and experienced. If you know a friend who has had semi permanent makeup done and he or she is happy with the job, try to make an appointment with that same person. Check around the salon and make sure that it is clean and that clean and new products are being used on your own body. Ask for sample photos and references as well before you commit to having a tattoo on your body that may last for 2, 5, 7 or even more years!
