Sunless tanning salons can be a great convenience for those who wish to enjoy the safer way to tan yourself – without Sun exposure – but don’t have the time and/or skills to do it themselves. There are many places that can offer you this service, and they certainly can do things for you that you cannot do on your own.
For starters, most sunless tanning salons offer an airbrush tanning service – a procedure which can give you astounding results, but requires an experienced hand to guide the tools. Not to mention that the equipment itself can be quite expensive – so a professional tanning salon will save you a lot of money and time.
Many salons for sunless tanning are also equipped with tanning spray booths – the concept is that you enter a booth, stand inside vertically, and you’re sprayed with tanning agent from jets all around you. While this provides great coverage all over your body, even in the hardest to reach spots, it also holds one downside – inhalation problems. It’s very difficult to prevent users from inhaling the tanning agent when inside those booths, so the FDA does not approve of their use.
At a sunless tanning salon, you can also get professional advice on your tanning – something which a lot of people underestimate. It can be very beneficial to hear the opinion of someone experienced, telling you how exactly you should proceed with your tanning. If you follow their advice closely, you can easily achieve your dream shade.
As good as sunless tanning salons may be, they also pose some risks. If the salon is of top quality – then you have nothing to worry about. But if they skimp on customer safety, you should probably stay away from the place. Examine their procedures carefully. Demand to see how they take care of eye, lip and nose/mouth protection – you’re putting your health at stake here, so take this seriously!
Some tanning salons also offer frequent customer discounts, so if you’re planning on getting a tan for a long period, you should look for a place which offers such promotions. You can save quite a lot that way if you tan yourself often – which would be necessary if your skin sheds too quickly, for example.
If you ever feel insecure at a tanning salon, never visit it again. Even if it’s something as small as forgetting part of the safety procedures – such mistakes can cost you a lot. A professional sunless tanning salon should treat their customers with the utmost care and respect, and always keep you informed on the safety involved in their operations.
If you manage to find a good place – which shouldn’t be hard – you’ll soon be saving a lot of money and time, and you’ll also look top notch on a constant basis. Face it – a tan is something you really can’t go without nowadays, so the sooner you think up a plan of maintaining one, the better.

I agree that salons are useful but they do cost a lot more than if you do it yourself.
I guess it depends on your mood aswell. Sometimes doing the tan in the comfort of my own home is much more convenient.
