What You Need to Know About Professional Make Up Cases

Written by Courtney L. | 29 July 2010

At home it may be alright to have your make up all askew and located in different parts of your house, but if you are a professional cosmetician it is important to have one or more professional make up cases to keep your make up in order. Having organized professional make up cases will not only enable you to find that make up you need quickly and easily, but having your make up neatly arranged makes you look like a real professional beautician or cosmetician.

Depending on what type of make up you do (i.e. is it for beauty or do you do stage make up where a lot of additional items may be necessary?) and your client list, you may require different sizes or types of make up case. There are some features you will certainly want to be on the look out for, no matter what kind of make up you will be applying:

1. SPACE: No matter what, when buying professional make up cases, you want to choose a case that offers you a fair amount of space. Try buying a case that may be slightly larger than your current needs so that you can still use this case as your collection grows.

2. WELL BUILT: Most professional make up cases come with shelves that will fold in and out, or swing out to the sides. When buying the case, check how these shelves are attached and make sure they are sturdy. Cheaper professional make up cases are usually made of weaker plastics and so they break far more easily than the more expensive cases.

3. STRONG EXTERIOR: Your make up goes where ever you do, so it’s important to choose a case that is made of a strong material. Aluminum is the most popular exterior these days, though some are made of wood, hard plastic, or even made of titanium.

4. EASILY CLEANED: As anyone who is in the make up business will tell you, the make up business is a messy business! Make sure that both the interior and the exterior are made up of materials that can be easily wiped clean or cleaned with soap and water.

Now that the basics are covered, you can begin looking at the styles of professional make up cases that are out there and decide which will suit your needs best.

1. ROLLING MAKE UP CASES: These professional make up cases are large and resemble a rolling suitcase. These have a collapsible handle and offer any where from 2 to 5 different make up compartments that are usually detachable.

2. TRAIN CASES: Train make up cases are smaller cases that usually have a base and 2-6 fold out or swing out shelves. These are wonderful for anyone who needs a make up case for personal use, or for a professional to buy several of to help them organize different make up products.

3. TRAVEL MAKE UP CASES: Travel make up cases are good for just that – travel! Though these of course do not offer a whole lot of room, you will be able to fit your beauty basics in there – make up brushes, foundation, some different eye shadows and powders.
