Sour makes fun. And bad makes you slim. The secret of a flat stomach and a firm body: lemons. You can read everything about the lemon diet and the best SOS drink here.

Lose weight simply with vitamin C and without going hungry? Sounds almost too good to be true. But that’s it, and we owe it to the lemon diet!

Did you know that animals that live in the wild do not get fat, become depressed, or have a cold? Biochemists found that this is mainly due to vitamin C. In contrast to humans, animals can produce this critical biological substance in the body whenever needed. And that is often the case: Vitamin C strengthens the immune system, helps the psyche, slows down the aging process, perks you up, and helps burn fat. This is why a lemon diet makes sense in many ways.

How does vitamin C work?

Vitamin C consists of carbon, water, and oxygen. A tiny molecule that is soluble in water. It already gets into the blood through the oral mucosa and from there into the body cells. In the brain, for example, it ensures that happiness hormones are produced. And hormones that are responsible for burning fat.

Vitamin C is needed in tissue to build muscles from protein, for example. And to destroy free radicals (cell-damaging substances that age and make us sick). Because vitamin C mainly strengthens the white blood cells, it also helps fight viruses and bacteria. It also supports the connective tissue because it helps to link protein building blocks (e.g., works with cellulite).

Lemons, oranges, and grapefruits contain around 30 milligrams of vitamin C per 100 grams and are therefore the ideal suppliers.

Drink grapefruit juice with every meal

Half a glass of grapefruit juice, preferably freshly squeezed, is enough before every meal! American scientists found this out in a pilot study with overweight patients. Because the contained bio-substances accelerate the sugar metabolism, that means: The sugar contained in the food is processed more quickly and less converted into body fat (as an energy store)!

Lemon diet: In between: nibble lemon!

It sounds furious at first … but it works. Only be careful if you have stomach problems. There could be too much acid! Cut 1 to 2 lemons into slices for a day, chewing one of them now and then. This works even better than squeezed juice because the pulp contains vitamins and other organic substances (e.g., flavonoids) that protect vitamin C from destruction. Dietary fiber (in the threads) detoxifies the intestines. Pectins (skin and peel) protect against cancer. Above all, there is enough vitamin C that the fat metabolism needs to produce carnitine. Carnitine works like a kind of taxi in the body that pulls fat molecules out of the cells to be converted into energy.

Lose weight with lemon: you should eat this in the evening.

Before going to bed, eat 30 g (1 to 2 thin slices) of lean meat (e.g., sliced turkey breast) and drink the freshly squeezed juice of 1 lemon (you can, of course, dilute it). The combination of protein and vitamin C stimulates the pituitary gland to produce growth hormones. They then open the body’s fat cells and convert them into energy. Thyroxine – the fat-eating hormone of the thyroid gland – is also stimulated to work overnight by vitamin C.

Sniff citrus scent against cravings

It has been scientifically proven: aromatic oils stop the appetite. Good SOS helps against cravings: Put three drops of orange or lemon oil (e.g., from the health food store or the pharmacy) on a paper or cloth handkerchief. Smell it intensely for about a minute. The aromas stimulate the production of happiness hormones in the brain, counteracting stressful eating. Another good trick to avoid classic seduction traps is the pastry shop or the grill snack: You concentrate on the lemon scent.
